Blog #7 - What obligations do wealthy nations have?

"Coketown... was a town of red brick, or of brick that would have been red if the smoke and ashes had allowed it; but as matters stood, it was a town of unnatural red and black like the painted face of a savage. It was a town of machinery and tall chimneys, out of which interminable serpents of smoke trailed themselves for ever and ever, and never got uncoiled. It had a black canal in it, and a river that ran purple with ill-smelling dye, and vast piles of building full of windows where there was a rattling and a trembling all day long, and where the piston of the steam-engine worked monotonously up and down, like the head of an elephant in a state of melancholy madness. It contained several large streets all very like one another, and many small streets still more like one another, inhabited by people equally like one another, who all went in and out at the same hours, with the same sound upon the same pavements, to do the same work, and to whom every day was the same as yesterday and to-morrow, and every year the counterpart of the last and the next."

Charles Dickens, Hard Times.

As we're studying the social impact of the industrial revolution in Europe, the chapter brings up some interesting ideas about the social impact of the huge expansion of industry upon a rural society. Among the major things that happened in Britain between 1760 and the mid 1850s were:

1. Many farmers were kicked off the land they'd farmed for generations, so they moved to the cities to find jobs where living conditions were horrid;

2. Many jobs were dangerous, dehumanizing and boring - no longer was there any variety with regards to the seasons or weather, changes to due to chance or innovation, but just repetition;

3. In some of the poorest places in Britain, children as young as 5 worked in mines and other dangerous places;

4. Wages were low because much of the profit was reinvested by the owners / managers into newer and improved machines (which could, in the foreseeable future, put the same workers out of work);

5. Since power sources were continually improved (but Britain had practically used up all of its charcoal - trees), coal-burning engines led to pollution which covered the land, air and water.

The British aristocracy didn't feel obligated to help the poor, and so many people fell through the cracks. When America, France, Germany and other European countries industrialized, they made many of the same mistakes that Britain had done. Could they have benefited from Great Britain's wisdom and experience as the leader of the industrial revolution?

As one of the world's leaders in industry and technology, the United States and many of the western nations can help China and India benefit from their experience. But should they? Are they obligated to do so? Why? Here's a few questions to consider when answering this question:

1. What are the benefits from helping out China and India install greener energy sources (than we had used when we industrialized 50-100 years ago) compared to not helping them out? Each country has 4-5x the population of the U.S. which equals that many more consumers, polluters, energy consumers, etc. The world is already running out of oil...

2. Why should we help the competition? Both countries can each produce more engineers and doctors in one year than the U.S. can in ten just based on the size of the population. Plus, American companies outsource work to India, so we want to help them be better because...?

3. Can the United States continue to risk its financial and military security by being so dependent on foreign oil (specifically going to war in the Middle East to protect the biggest source of the stuff in the world)? On the surface, this might not seem like it deals with China, India and other developing nations, but we're all competing for the same energy sources. Importing so much oil from this region forces us to make hard choices about our future. Can we continue to risk American lives b/c we haven't developed alternative fuel sources yet?

4. What happens if either of these countries develops a new source of energy first (much like the steam engine was invented back in the 1720s and perfected in the 1760s by James Watt)? Would they be willing to share or sell it if we had been stingy? Would the western nations be left out of the new revolution in green technology while China or India or both leapfrog ahead of us?

5. What is the moral thing to do in this case? Or, in other words, what is the right thing to do? For the sake of the planet's health, what should be done?

Use at least 3 of these questions to help you answer the "should wealthy nations feel obligated to help out other nations who haven't industrialized yet?" concept.

1) The U.S should help out china and India install new greener energy sources. The U.S could help the planet by helping them because those countries have 4-5X the population and would use way more of the world’s oil than the half that is already gone. It would make the world better by helping them so they wouldn’t burn as much fossil fuel as we did when we industrialized.

3) The United States can’t risk sending military or financial security to get the oil we need. We already have troops in other places that are in a war. By not being so dependent on foreign oil we would not have to worry about a war for the last of the oil and when the oil is gone we would already have things that we power without oil.

5) The right thing to do would be to help out the other county so that they are not dependent on foreign oil like we are and by them not using oil the earth would be a cleaner place there would be less pollution and it would not destroy the ozone layer.

I believe that we should help China and India go more green. One reason is that there isn’t an unlimited amount of oil in the world. And once we use up all of that oil we are not going to be in a good position. Another reason why we should go more green is because of pollution. We constantly are polluting the planet we live on and are ruining the ozone layer.

We also are all competing for the oil in the Middle East which is creating problems with other countries. This later on could cause problems such as war and violence against one another. For the sake of the planets health we all need to take part and become greener. Everyone taking part is the right thing to do in this situation and we all need to work together to save our planet. These are the reasons why I believe we should help India and China become more green.

The topic “Do wealthy nations have obligations to help developing nations industrialize?” is a tough question because there are so many different ways to approach the situation. One of the first parts of that subject is how would it benefit us as Americans. In some ways it would because if we help them go green then they might return the favor and share ideas with us if they were to find an alternative form of energy before we do. A second subject would be should the United States risk their financial and military security by being so dependent on foreign oil? In some cases we should, because we are already there fighting for the largest supply of it; but we are also risking and losing American lives every day for it. A third and final subject in this matter is what‘s the moral thing to do? If American were to have had a country that could have guided us while we were in that process then we wouldn’t have polluted the air so much. Earth has more pollution now then it use to and that wouldn’t have happened if we had decided to “go green” earlier. So ask yourself what would you do?

1. If the United States doesn’t help China and India that is just being greedy. If we don’t use our knowledge and experiences to help them then we are just going to run out of resources for everyone! If we could help them find healthier ways to industrialize for our planet then we can all benefit from that. Considering the fact that we are running out of oil, if we let China and India waste it all just so they can’t be more advanced than us that doesn’t help anyone. How do we all plan to survive on this planet if we don’t have any resources left?

2. I don’t think we should be looking at it as if they are our competition. We are all trying to survive on this planet. So why not help each other? It’s not like we are being affected negatively by helping each other. The United States should use their knowledge to help others. We will get credit for what we do. We can all use each other to find a way to help our planet.

5. Obviously the moral thing to do is to help. If we won’t just because we are afraid another place is going to be more advanced is just stupid. Not helping could lead to the end of everyone. It’s just like if you have a friend who is running for class president against you. They might have good ideas, and you might also. If your friend wins and ends up needing help and you know what to do, but you don’t help you are then risking the school and things going on with it that could make it worse if you don’t help. The school will fall apart. If we don’t help then so will our planet.

Should wealthy nations feel obligated to help out other nations who haven't industrialized yet?"

I think that technologically advanced countries like the United States, England and Russia should help developing countries India and China. I believe that advanced countries should help these countries because by helping these countries, they won’t make the same mistakes that we did. For example, the US and other countries became dependent on fossil fuels and have almost destroyed the natural order of our plant. The fuels have caused global warming, the melting of the ice caps, and gigantic holes in the ozone layer. If we help developing countries, we could minimize the impact and introduce them to new ways of creating energy that are more efficient and are better for the environment. I think that this is the right thing to do anyway because we can help whole countries from suffering from gigantic mistakes like we did and it’ll help our planet be healthier and continue to heal at its pace. I think that helping these countries would also help us develop new technology because once developing countries are a technologically ahead as countries like the US, England and Russia, then we can use them as research partners for new technology and energy sources.

If the British and the United States were to develop a new source of energy then they would have to have a way to support the “invention” because we would be using energy all the time and we would not want it to go to waste.

If we were to go through with the invention then I’m sure that people would like the invention and we would have a high demand for it, therefore we would have to make more and more.

I don’t not think that if we had a good enough product we would not want to share it because we would want to make more money to make something better.
We would also not want to sell it because it’s ours and we need it, but if they were to have enough to the point to where they wanted to sell it then I think they should sell it because they could make even something better with the money that they have now

1. Helping China and India develop greener energy sources would help save our planet. Since the populations of these countries are so large, they especially need green energy sources to save oil. If we don’t help them and let them make the same mistakes we have, the Earth will run out of its natural resources much quicker. It would benefit everyone in the world to save resources, so we should share our knowledge with China and India.

2. We should help the competition because it could help us out one day. If other countries have more people, they could cover areas in technology that America doesn’t have enough people to really work on. Maybe, with Americas help, China or India could come up with medicines and technologies that we could have never made on our own. It could save lives, limit pollution, and create new tools to make life easier.

5. In this case, the right thing to do is help the other countries. It would benefit everyone if we helped each other out so that China and India can learn from past mistakes and try to make new ideas that may work better. If America collaborates with China and India, they can help them decide what would work and what wouldn’t. If we help China and India find green energy sources, it would drastically help our planet compared to what could happen if they didn’t use green energy sources.

1. If we helped China and India with installing greener energy sources, we would be helping creating new jobs, slowing down pollution, and making people more aware about the situation our planet is in. They have more people than us so that means they create more pollutants too, so if they were more eco-friendly than that would remove a large percentage of pollution on our planet.

4. If either China or India were to develop a new source of energy before the United States, than they wouldn’t be willing to share it if we had been stingy, however we might be able to work up a compromise by buying this source from them or buying the knowledge of this source from them and giving them a percentage for each person that uses this technology. Both countries would benefit.

5. The moral thing to do in this case would be for all of us to work together and create a worldwide union not unlike the European Union. We could use the same currency and help each other out, but we could still speak our own languages and use our own system of government.

Anonymous said...

The benefits from helping out China and India install greener energy sources would be because a lot of our resources come from china and around the world and slowly we are losing all of our natural resources and we need them so by creating things that help the world like something that runs on water instead of gas to make the world a more greener and healthier place to live.

We would want to help our China and India because even though they have a greater population we are running bigger companies with less people but by helping them out maybe later in the years when we need something or something in the world is happening since we helped them our they would be on their side

So the moral thing to do is to help out China and India because we are still all living in this one place and we should be trying to help it out instead of damaging it more.

1.) When were forced to leave there land and go into the city and find jobs, I’m sure that it was hard for them to fit in with the living situations. Also I believe that when changing from farming to working in shops or working as a maid for women is a huge change. There will need to be a lot of changes to go through with living conditions. In our economy now in 2009, it is very hard for people to find jobs, I’m going to compare back in the day with today. Today many families are losing jobs do to company’s not being able to pay them anymore. Back in the day when you were a farmer you did all your work yourself and usually without a boss paying you or watching you to make sure that you’re doing a good job. Since it was your crops you were responsible to make your crops either great or without any effort put into it. If your product was good then that means you may get a good profit in the end.
2.) Jobs due to weather changes, I feel that there was not enough jobs for other people to do. I was guessing that there was many people without jobs. Or also many people that were not enjoying their job. I feel when you have a job you should enjoy it; I think that it will help you work for efficiently. I know that if I was to get a job offer to a job that I most defiantly would dread waking up and doing every day I would turn down the job and try and find another job that I have more interest in.
5.) I feel that the moral thing to do in this case is to help the poor. And also to get poverty off the streets I think that if the government cared more about the people than many other families would be more successful and wanting to help out the country. I know that when I see homeless people on the streets I would most want to help them out. I know that education is important to me and I feel that everyone needs to get an education.

1. China and India would benefit from greener energy sources. Energy sources such as wind and water power are a few ways to become greener. If China and India were to become greener, the large population would survive longer due to less pollution. By creating cleaner energy sources, we can then learn about them more and their effects on people and technology. Greener technology can help the population by providing the science which can be applied to the transportation needs of 4-5times the population of the U.S. It can also be applied to the industrial and agricultural style by producing more, healthier crops and having the factories pollute a lot less. Without as much pollution, business will be more successful because of the surplus of healthier crops which people will then want to buy. It is about time to change the energy sources because if we didn’t, we would run out of oil, and that wouldn’t be good.
2. I don’t agree that we should help the other countries. I disagree because they have the potential to be more powerful and more technologically advanced than the U.S. I think that if we help them it, their success could later hurt us. I also don’t think that the U.S. should outsource companies and work to India because I think that we should give the jobs to the Americans who are suffering from unemployment and a bad economy. Sending them across the world doesn’t make sense to me at all. We don’t want them to be better.

5. The moral thing to do is to help them because what goes around comes around. And if we don’t, it could have major consequences on the world. We should treat the others how we want to be treated and what is in the best interest for the world and its health. We should agree on solutions that are a positive for everyone

Helping China and India with greener energy sources is a good idea. Since they have more people, if they do the same things we did, they would be consuming more oil and creating more pollutants. If we help them out, there’s also a chance that we can work together to help out everyone, instead of every nation working alone. I think it’s better to help out people who are just starting to revolutionize, instead of standing by and watching them make mistakes.

It’s good to help India and China, because if we do, we’ll have allies for the future. If they can already produce more engineers and doctors, wouldn’t it be good if instead of working against us, they helped us out? It wouldn’t be smart to not have friendly relations with the countries who can out produce us because of population.

If the other nations develop a new source of energy, we should try and find out what it is, and ask if we can use it or improve on the design, so it can help more people. This is why we should help them. If we just laugh at their failures, they won’t want to help us at all when they do something good.

"Should wealthy nations feel obligated to help out other nations who haven't industrialized yet?"

Developed nations that have already industrialized and made everything greener than before should not feel forced, but should just help the undeveloped countries get green too. If we do not it can affect the world by making it more polluted and unfresh. We should also help the other countries that aren’t industrialized because they have boring jobs that they have been doing for so many years in a row. The jobs are boring and they are bad for the environment at the same time. We should let them in on the industrialization so they can escape from there boring jobs, do something new and help the world at the same time. And if the other country develops a new source of energy that is better than ours, they would not tell us after we did not tell them about are new and better energy source. So if all the countries just work together and share ideas and inventions then we will continue to keep on growing in technology and eventually find a source of energy that is perfect for the work it is used

Yes I think they should help other nations because it would help us have better relations with them. If we do help other nations we can get resources from them. If we help china and India install greener energy sources it would help stop global warming and stop polluting the air we fossil fuel. We want to help the competition because it could benefit us as well because we could get more resources like gas and oil.

2. It may seem like it wouldn’t be a good idea to help the “competition” but these countries help us more than we think about. China is a huge trading partner with the U.S. for everything from toys to electronics. Many American jobs are outsourced to India, especially in these hard times, to save money. So in helping these other countries we actually help ourselves become more prosperous.

4. If China or India were to develop a new, cleaner, more cost efficient form of energy then our current forms of energy then they would shoot ahead of not only the U.S. but the rest of the world both economically and technologically. If we were to help them reach this point or even cooperate with them to achieve this goal then they would be more inclined to share the technology they discovered with us.

5. The moral thing to do in this situation is to help developing nations. This is the moral thing to do for both mankind and the world as a whole. It improves the quality of life of those being helped and saves the earth’s natural recourses. It also prevents pollution from the low tech forms of energy, such as coal.

1) We shouldn’t help the competition because; India has never helped the U.S. in a war or with famine, or anything. Only reason India wants to be neutral is because they are too scared to fight. India is afraid of losing their troops but they can just sit back and watch most of Americas troops die. India has been an ally with Britain for a long time but they have never tried to help us. India is just afraid that Acadia will come, and terrorize their own country if they help. If I was the President or Prime minster of India I would help the U.S. because we sill trade with the country India. India needs to step up and help the U.S. I mean they have hundreds of doctors and engineers I mean they can spare a few for us for the war. India’s population is very big more than the size of the U.S’s so we shouldn’t be helping the competition, the y have done nothing of us except trade.

2) I don’t think there are any benefits for helping China, and India make greener energy sources. China has many people in their country; they have many scientists and doctors that can think of cleaner ways to produce energy. India has never helped us so why should we help them they, don’t do much for the world, and seem to remain neutral in the world, so why should we help them, they only care about themselves.

3) The moral thing to do for the earth is to save it. America is trying very hard to make this a cleaner earth and more countries need to help out on the course to making a greener earth.

Question 5:

The moral thing to do in this case is to help out China and India. This way it could be better for the United States economy and keep close relations with China and India. Also if one country was in trouble, for example the United States with the electronics business, China should help them since they are far more advanced in technology. If the United States is in trouble with farming, India should help since India has plains of food.

Question 4:

I think if either country developed a new source of energy first, they would be selling it. In this case it would be known as supply and demand because they would need money to get this energy. If the United States borrowed this energy and gave nothing in return, this could cause a financial problem or a war will break out.

Question 3:

If the United States continues to send troops and supplies to Afghanistan, this could cause a financial problem and even riots due to the troops not going back to their families. Also, you have to pay for the planes to pick up the troops and take them back to the United States, which then involves oil. Oil is needed for airplanes, cars, boats etc. if oil was lost this would change society.

I believe that wealthy nations should feel obligated to help out nations who haven’t industrialized yet because if more counties were industrialized and had better sources, then this could help decrease the dependency on oil and help improve the world. If we helped out China and India, not only would they benefit, but we would too. Having them install greener energy sources would create less pollutants/polluters and energy consumers, which would improve the Earth. By improving the Earth, this allows everyone to benefit and be happier and healthier.

The United States can’t continue to risk financial and military security to protect oil. Keep in mind that there is not an unlimited amount of oil in the world. Eventually we will need to find a new source for fuel and we should try to find it sooner than later. If the United States helped places like India and China, then maybe new fuel sources will be discovered sooner and the competition for oil would decrease, leaving more of it left on Earth.

In this situation, the moral thing to do is to help places like China and India become more industrialized. By doing this, we could gain new things and advantages and help other countries improve. Even if doing this could result in more competition and new negatives, the United States would learn to adjust and live with these problems. By teaching China and India how to improve their sources, it also teaches them how to help keep the environment clean. This would help to benefit people all over the world and possibly cause other countries to get better sources in their industries.

I think that wealthy nations should not feel obligated to help other nations who haven’t industrialized yet because they don’t have to if they don’t need to, but if they did help out, there would be a lot of benefits coming out from that. Some benefits from helping nations like India and China install greener energy sources is not just for the nation helping it, but for the whole world because there is already a lot pollution and helping them install this would help decrease the amount of pollution emitted into the air or to the water. And also, since the world is already running out of oil, installing greener energy sources might help slow down the use of oil. Even if the countries we are helping can produce more engineers and doctors in a year than the U.S can in ten, they are still doing this anyway, even if we don’t help them out. If the U.S ever comes to an industrial decline, the China and India would probably offer us help in return for ours. If we do not decide to help the countries, and any of them develops a new source of energy before we did, they might not share of sell it with us since we did not help them when they most needed it. If we did not help the countries, the western nations would be left out of the new revolution in green technology while Chine and India both leap ahead of us. If we had helped them, they would probably be willing to share or at least sell it to us since we helped them become more industrialized. This is why I think that wealthy nations should not feel obligated to help other nations who have not yet industrialized yet.

If the United States refuses to help China and India become greener and more energy efficient, it would be stupid and be to our disadvantage. For one obvious reason, it could anger other countries and lead to disagreements or war, which the United States does not need. If we don’t share our knowledge with other countries, then we are just limiting the resources for not only India and China, but the whole world! Our whole planet is suffering and needs to be more Eco- friendly. Since we are running low on oil, everybody needs to come together and share their knowledge and experience to better out future. Therefore, if the U.S. refused to help, the world would become disconnected in an effort to help the world, which again would be to our disadvantage.

The moral thing to do in this case would obviously be to help India and China. The economy is down in the world, and the United States needs to do whatever they can do to survive and better their future. We need to adapt to our struggles and navigate around the obstacles we encounter everyday. The fact that movies are being made about the end of the world such as “2012”, and many people believe this is true, does not help. That just means we will fall apart sooner. Although I do not believe the theory that the world will end in 2012, i know it will eventually. Therefore, we must do something before it is too late.

The question is why should we help the competition. My question is, What competition? In our situation in the world (especially between the U.S., China, and India) we must not look at our neighbors as competition. We are all apart of our troubles, and must be apart of the solution. There was once a great song written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie for charity for Africa called“ We are the World.” This was a very appropriate title for the song, and I believe this title still applies to everybody. “We are the World,” and We must save this planet!

We should definitely help China and India install greener energy sources. The whole world would benefit from these new energy sources because the environment would not continue to be polluted at the rate it is now. If we don’t help them, our environment will be destroyed faster than if we helped them.

We should help the competition because we all live on the same planet, and our atmosphere is being polluted and ruined. Just because they are our “competition” doesn’t mean that they aren’t part of the problem. We all need to do something about pollution, and helping out countries that are ruining the ozone layer and atmosphere would help greatly. It is better to be competitive than self destructive.

The morally correct option here is to help the countries that are in need. For the sake of our planet’s health, greener energy sources should be installed in places where the population is four to five times the United States’ population. A larger population equals more pollution. The only right thing to do here is to help our planet.

2. We should help the competition on some levels because they could help us in the future with their accomplishments as a pay back or sign of an ally. If we help them be better, they could make advances we did not see so they could send those to us or provide us with information.

4. If we would be generous, other countries would feel more light and generous back. But if they had discovered it, the United States would probably figure what their energy supply is any way. The revolution would make its way to the west just by spread of word though in a much longer time span that a sharing of ideas between the countries.

5. Moral would be only to help what would be necessary to remain in the competition while sharing ides to advance both countries equally. In terms of green, all ideas should be shared in hopes to maintain Earth as much as possible.

1. The benefits from helping out China and India install greener energy sources would be saving the ozone layer. The ozone layer is already very thin and it can burst soon so if china and India used greener resources it would help save the ozone that should be a good enough benefit.
2. I don’t think we should help the other countries with everything only things that will have benefits to help the world. Helping them install greener recourse is a huge benefit to the world. I don’t think we should help other countries produce revenue since they keep taking all of the jobs that are in America.
4. if the other countries develops a new energy source than if we helped them in the past than I think they would share or sell their source. Maybe some countries would be generous but some maybe stingy, like North Korea I think would be stingy with their energy source but I don’t they would discover a new source.

Anonymous said...

1. Helping China and India install greener energy sources is critical to the world. These countries are densely populated and are growing technologically faster than the United States. Many millions of people live in poorer than poor conditions with no energy plan in place. For example, there may be no plumbing or heat or access to transportation. However the businesses that are growing currently have no system to save the environment. They may dump waste directly in the water system or pollute the air with by -products of manufacturing. Working with these countries will help the US develop technologies and provide jobs, for all countries involved, while improving conditions for the planet.

2. We want to help these countries because we all learn during the process. Shared information allows each of us to be better than individuals. Also, helping these countries will provide better living conditions and better education. New jobs will be created that may not be as super-skilled as doctors or engineers. This will help reduce some of the poverty level and start to develop the middle class which is currently lacking, especially in India.

4. If we are good business partners with India and China, I think we are more likely to share the technologies. If we don’t have good relationships, these countries may partner with some of their other neighbors who may not have good plans to share or help the world. For example, Pakistan is one of India’s nearest neighbors and the US is still not sure if they trust this country. Korea is a neighbor of China and they haven’t always shown that they want to help the world. Historically, the United States has tried to be willing to help other countries.

1. The benefits of helping China and India Develop Greener resources is the World will be a healthier place and everyone can save the dwindling supply of oil for important things that help everyone in the world. If we don’t help other countries in need of help right now, then how can we expect help in the future from them when we are in trouble? Since both countries have almost five times the population of the United States then that could be five times the amount of help we could get from each country.
2. If we help the competition then the engineers and doctors that they produce will be more efficient at what they do. They will be able to help our country advance with the help and education we gave them.
4. If helping them be more green ends up where everyone has efficient technology that doesn’t hurt the world, then it would all be worth it. A better world means everyone can live on Earth longer without problems like global warming. Also if we were stingy before, then they will be less likely to share their success with us. We would be left out of the success going around the world.

Some of the benefits from helping China and India install greener energy sources are, it can causes less pollution, and it is also helping the world’s environment.
We want China and India to be better so they cannot pollute the world so the ozone layer can decrease, and so they can have more engineers to make more products for the world and more doctors to cure or help people.
We cannot keep going to war and risking American lives for the oil supply, we should either find enough oil for everybody or we should both settle this like men and split the amount of oil that is found in the world today.
If any other countries found another resource first then they will probably be willing to sell it to make more money if a country has been stingy. But they might be willing to share it to a country if they have been helping them out or likes that country. The western nations could be left out if they don’t want to help the environment, but if they want to go green then they will have to try and buy the resource.
For the sake of this planet’s health we should take care of it like ourselves by keeping it clean (stop littering, picking up trash), stop polluting our air and our water by putting toxic chemicals in it and use greener resources to help our environment and make the world a better place.

1.The benefits from helping out China and India install greener energy sources compared to not helping them out are that China and India have much greater populations than the United States, and that means that there is going to be a greater amount pollution, consumers, etc. In China, there is already smog accumulating in the air because of their higher population using items like cars and aerosol cans. By helping them become greener, China and India will have to become more efficient and increase their revenue. With the increased revenue, China and India would be able to purchase more American goods and services, which would also improve the American economy.

2.We want to help China and India become better because if we create a better alliance with the two countries then our trade with them might increase. With an increase in trade, the United States would be able to gain an increase in income. Even though both countries can each produce more engineers and doctors in one year than the U.S. can in ten, our technology is greater than theirs. Because of this we have to help them get a better technology system.

5.The moral thing to do in this case is to help China and India. We should help them so that they don’t pollute the air as much as they already do.

The obligations that wealthy nations have (USA, England, Germany, Japan, Sweden, ect) there obligated to protect and serve there citizens. To come to the aid of there neighbors. To uphold contract law. The Untied States can not depend on foreign oil. To be strong you need to not depend on other countries supplying any of your need including food, energy and defense. The benefits from helping out China and India install greener energy source are the more that they use energy sufficiently the cheaper the energy cost for everybody will be because of supply and demand.

Question 1:
Some of the benefits of helping china would be less pollution and if they made an alternate solution we might get in on it. But there are too many things that could go wrong, it could turn out that they don’t want our help and we would insist and it might turn into war, they might not give us rights to the product or we might take it for ourselves and that would give us another country that would be angry at us.

Question 2:
There could be good things and bad things to helping these countries. It could work out perfectly and it would benefits all the countries but it could also hurt the U.S. by giving other company’s more encouragement to send workers overseas. Putting us in a worse position then we already are in.

Question 5:
For the being moral it depends on the side you are on. If we are helping for the sake of our planet and what is left on it; the answer is yes, but if it is to help the development of the country’s; it is no. This is because they have already taken a majority of our jobs and giving them better technology we just encourage more jobs to go overseas.

1.)There are two benefits from helping out China and India install greener energy sources. The most important one would be that we would be helping make the Earth a better place to live by cutting down on pollution. Another benefit would be that we would be helping them, so if they ever came across a discovery that could help people and the Earth, they would be more likely to share it with us as well.

2.)First of all, we should NOT call India and China our competition. They should never be competition; they should be our friends, our allies. And if someone is your friend, wouldn’t you want to help them, even if they are in a better situation than us? If we help them, they’ll most likely want to give us a helping hand back. Thus, we SHOULD help the “competition”, whether they are wealthier than us or not.

4.) If either China or India develops a new source of energy first, they probably won’t want to help us and share their discovery with us if we are stingy and selfish. That is why we SHOULD be willing to help these other countries, like I said in questions 1 and 2. We should always help one another, because it will help us people and the Earth as well.

The United States shouldn’t risk its financial and military security when depending on the foreign oil. They risk American lives, money, and time when they go to the Middle East to protect the biggest sources stuff that the world has. The world shouldn’t compete for the same energy sources when we can all share it, since the sources are limited and we all live together in one planet. When people import so much of these resources, they make bad choices like sending many soldiers to protect the resources, and many start wars between countries that affect the other countries around them. Countries with higher power should together and agree in a way to help the world and how to control the resources that are in China, India and other countries. If we agree in one chose the future of the world might change and the resources are going to last longer for the people that are going to be around in that time.

America, France, Germany and other European countries probably wouldn’t have made the same mistakes Great Britain made if they benefited from Britain’s wisdom and experience, especially because Great Britain was the leader of the industrial Revolution.
The United States and other Western countries should help India and China benefit from their experience. We and other western countries, as wealthier countries, are obligated to help. We all should help because we would want someone to help industrialize and upgrade our nation if it was us.
The benefits from helping China and India because if we help them while their struggling, when they are better and more advanced they would be willing to trade with us for something they have.
I think if they create something before we do they will not be willing to share or sell with us if we were stingy because they would probably feel like they could be alliances considering the similarities between each country. How they both are struggling to industrialize and no one is helping!

The question of whether Wealthy Nations should help countries such as India and China, who haven’t industrialized yet, makes for a very tough decision. Many variables need to be taken into account when formulating a decision.
Why should competition be helped? Many countries that have not yet industrialized have at least twice the population we have. If we help them industrialize, there is a possibility that a revolution could jumpstart a country’s economy and production. Why should a wealthy country allow another to surpass them because of their help and efforts to make them better?
Another question to ask is what happens if a country develops a new energy source, or perfects one to the point of using it in cars, buildings, homes, etc.? Many countries would never freely share their information and knowledge because of the need to be the most advanced country out there. Also, when James Watt perfected the Steam Engine, Britain kept it to themselves, so it’s only “fair” that these countries wouldn’t share their technology with the rest of the world.
The final question to be considered is what is the moral thing to do? There is only one earth. We only get one chance with it. Will the planet be able to withstand another air polluting, gas-guzzling nation? These are arguments that need to be taken into consideration when asking a loaded question such as this.

1. I think that the U.S. should help China and India with getting green technologies and energy systems because one we can, two a lot of people in the U.S. are very concerned with global warming and things like that and tell countries like China and India that they need to be cleaner but don't help them in the process. If we help them get greener energy sources than we can get money, reduce pollution and help them become more developed countries. If we don't help them out then there will be alot more pollution going into the air even after we become "green" because China and India together have about 9 times as many people as the U.S. .

4. If either China or India makes a new advance in technology GREAT! It shows that they are making progress. And on the question of will they want to give it to us if we had been stingy well maybe not so that's why we need to help them. .

5. The moral thing to do now is to help India and China be greener. It doesnt matter if we cant outsource things to India anymore because it will give people here more jobs and we can work it out. For the sake of the planet we need to help as many people that we can right now or else sooner rather than later there will be no more people.

Nations such as China and India can benefit from the industrial experience of the United States as well as other western countries in the world. Each nation has an obligation to its citizens to help make their world safe and healthy. Helping China and India install the use of greener fuel alternatives than oil would profit the United States because our country is much smaller, which means less people to pollute and use energy when using oil. If the U.S. were to help them to find more environmentally friendly alternatives the amount of pollution globally would decrease, creating a safer and healthier nation for themselves. The United States should be interested in helping China and India because it would increase the number of consumers for our country. Each of their nation’s standard of living would rise, creating the need for more goods. Also, as their quality of life improves, so does their need for higher quality goods, which we are better and more experienced at producing. In this case, the right thing to do is to help every nation, including China and India, become more fuel efficient and better their ways of life. We can not create borders for the air and we all have a vested interest in helping the planet we share. It is each country’s obligation to make their citizens safe and healthy, as well as provide for them which can be achieved by creating more consumers by helping other countries.

Developed nations that have already industrialized and made everything better for the environment should not feel forced. They should help the undeveloped countries get better for the environment also. If we don’t do this, the countries that pollute could pollute the entire world. We should also help the other countries that aren’t industrialized because they have dead end jobs that they work at for years and years that are also bad for the environment and the economy. We should let them in on the industrialization so they can get good steady jobs to work with and build on from there. If all the countries work together and share ideas and new inventions then the world can find an energy source that we need to work with. Also by doing this we can prevent wars and less countries would keep secrets from one another which helps countries have a more even economy.

1.The benefits of helping china and India install greener energy sources compared to not helping them out is, it benefits the world as a whole. It will reduce pollution and help them not make the same mistake as us in depending on oil. They produce things that we need, we produce things that they need. If we help them, it might help our relationship with them and increase trade.

4. I think they would be willing to share because if we helped them out on getting new technology, then they would probably be willing to share their new technology with us. Also if we had a good relationship with them, then they would probably want to share with us so we don’t get mad at them or something and stop trading.

5. I think they moral thing to do in this case is to share our technologies with them. It will, in the long run, help us and the planet.

I think that wealthy nations should help other nations because it is the right thing to do. Helping other nations clean up their polluting ways will benefit the human race for generations to come. However we do not want to let our guard down in this helping sense. We want to stand for what we believe in leading to helping others but not let them take advantage of our nation at the same time.

With all of the people in their population we are going to want to have a good track record in helping them if one of their engineers should succeed in devolving a new technology. They will know we were there in a particular time of need and look at the U.S. more favorably.

Look I’m a church going individual and I believe that treating people in a good way is always the right thing to do.

1.If the United States doesn’t help China and India then you could easily say that they are being very selfish. The United States is much more advanced then China and India and could really help them with their own improvements. If chosen not to help them it will come back on us. We will eventually run out of resources and we they won’t give them to us. There are even things that we could do to benefit us all such as, giving them ways to help with agriculture and machines. Without any resources nobody will survive.

2.In this question, India is referred to as competition. Think of it as peers. You might not be great friends/allies but you should still give an occasional hello, or help out. For all of us to survive we need to help others out. When helping them there’s no disadvantage to us, so why not? Although they might be able to produce more employees, we already have the advantage of a large population. Also by helping them we will get some credit out of it also.

3.The moral action to take in this case is to help everyone out, allies or not. This would have more of a benefit to everyone then it would a false effect. For the sake of the planets health, this will help more people survive, a better environment, and more.

1. The benefits from helping out developing countries install greener energy sources is that it benefits the whole world by reducing the amount of pollution. Since the United States made the mistake of being dependent on oil, we could help other countries not make that mistake. Both India and China have a greater population, so in turn, it would make more of an impact.

2. We should help out competition because, in the end, our country and the other countries are linked economically. We produce products that they need, and they produce products that we need. We should help them to be better so everyone’s economy would become better. Even though they are competition, we still live in the same world.

5. The moral thing to do in the situation is to help out the developing countries for the sake of the planet. There needs to be more dependence on greener resources so the environment could stop being polluted. It would also help out everyone’s economy, even if it means helping out competition.

India and China is a major contributor to the increase in pollution and an unstable living environment. If we were to help them, we would significantly reduce the amount of waste and pollution there is in the atmosphere. Since they are the heaviest populated countries, their eco-friendly rate is low. Helping them will help other countries see the benefits of a safe, pure ecosystem that will be there for generations after us. Even though they are considered our competition, we all share the same world. If we don’t work together, then there’s no point in working at all. We are all in this just as much as the other, so the fact that they’re our ‘competition’ does not mean anything for this situation. In this case, the moral thing to do would be to help them. We all need to do this together because it affects us all. Helping the environment will give us better living conditions, and if that’s what we all are striving for, then it shouldn’t matter who we’re working with.

I think we should help the competition because in the future when there doing a lot better than us and we are not doing well at all with industries and technology, they can return a favor by helping us out.

For the sake of the planets health I think we should all America France Germany and all other European countries not make another mistake and or the same mistake Britain did and help out the poor and care for unhealthy people as much as we do for healthy people.

If either of these countries develop a new source of energy first it depends on if we were stingy or not , if we weren’t stingy and help and cared for any of the countries they would possibly 90% out of 100% share with us but if we didn’t share and been stingy they wouldn’t share 99% out of 100% so if we are nice in the beginning and they happen to have a new creation we have a good chance of getting part of that.
