Blog #3 - Think of new ways to promote the book drive!

Hey,
I know we brainstormed a couple of ways of promoting the book drive. What I would like you to do here is come up with three ways that you can:

1. personally push/promote the book drive and

2. what kinds of action can you do to make those things happen?

For instance, you could say "I'm gonna call my uncle, Steve, b/c I know he's got a lot of books and see if he has any extras. Then I'll have my mom drive me over to his house this weekend, pick them up, and bring them to school on Monday, January 12."

This may seem like an easy blog (10 pts). But the hard part will be to keep your end of the deal by following through with your three suggestions (5 pts. extra credit per suggestion with my approval).

Due Friday, January 9.

Remember, just 7 books!

Some ways that I can promote the book drive would to go through all the books I have and give away all of the ones that I don’t want anymore or have already read. I can also ask the other people in my house to go through some of the books they have and I can bring those books into school as well. I can let my friends know about the book drive because I know they have lots of books that they would be willing to give to a good cause. I think that if we each bring in a few books all of our small donations will add up and we will have helped a lot.

There are many things that our class (and hopefully the whole district) can do to raise money and books for the invisible children cause though, getting the word out about our book and money drive will be that hard part. Obviously the posters will start spreading the word but that is just the beginning. I think we should definitely advertise on the FANN. I think this would be a good way to spread the word around school about the cause. But I also think we should make one of our own “commercial” like announcements so people know that we are the ones doing it and express to them how much we want to help these children. I also think we should put articles in the local newspaper about a showing of the movie itself to raise more money, and at the showing we could also sell the merchandise. One action I will do to contribute to this cause is, I will rummage through my garage (yuck!) and look for all of the books I am able to bring to school, I will also call my whole family and ask very nicely for any gently used books that they are not currently using. I will explain to them the situation and try to get them as involved as I am.

To promote the “The Biggest Book drive in History to change History”, I can do many thing. We can go to many of the groves sporting and other events, were we can set up a stand were we can collect books, or pass out flyers. Before we would have to inform others of the book dive through “The Fan” or handing out letters home to parents. As a student I would volunteer to go to these and hlp collect the books. I will also go up and down the street asking my neighbors if they can donate any books to my cause. Lastly I think we could go around the school each day or something, and ask if any of the classes have brought in any books (like they did with the toy drive), or have some people stay before and after school, and during luch, and collect books in the commens, and tell ppl about our cause.
EDIT: We can also have like order forms for some of the braclets, movies, e.t.c. and we can have people get them thorugh us(same price as online, so no profit)

One way I could promote the book drive is by spreading the word to everyone I can. The problem we are trying to fix is so serious that I think everyone in the world should know about it and support it.
One way to do these is between family and friends. With family I can ask for their help. By just asking for as many or as little books as they can give, the contribution will still be helpful. Also by asking them to spread the word, I can hopefully get books to be donated by many people. I can then pick up the books from their houses and bring the to the school to be donated.
Another way to spread the word to everyone, is by creating flyers. By passing the flyers out in school and in my neighborhood I can hopefully encourage people to bring books to school, or possibly go door to door asking for a book or to just for a little bit of extra help.

Some ways I can promote the book drive is by asking my mom to bring home some books that she has at work. She works at a preschool and they have a lot of books there that they don’t really need anymore. Also, the other teachers there have kids and I’m sure they have books that their kids’ don’t read any more. She, also, hangs out with friends on Wednesday and I could see if any of them or their kids could bring in anything. I could also talk to my BBG chapter (b’nai brith girls—which is apart of b’nai brith youth organization), and see if I can get my chapter—or maybe other chapters as well—to bring in books. I’m sure they’d be glad to help because we do many fundraisers, but this one is like no other we’ve done before. I can talk with my sister and see if she could get some of her friends to bring in some books. They could tell their friends and/or relatives and it just becomes a long chain of communication about this huge drive.

In order to help promote/ push the book drive for the invisible children, I can do the following things. 1 thing I could do to help promote the book drive is, I could tell me other friends/family about it, and I could tell them to spread it to everyone, or most of the people they would think help donate. Another way I could help is I could make flyers, and go door to door to help spread the word of the invisible children, so everyone knows what it is. In order for all of those things to happen, I would have to work very hard, and not just give up, because theses books are going to a very good cause. Those are some ways I could help promote/push the book drive.

1. Put something on the fann promoting people to bring in books
2. Put up posters around the school telling to bring in books.
3. Put donation boxes around the school so people can donate their books.

To think of ideas for the Invisible Children book drive I will ask family members if they have any lightly used books that they don’t use anymore to donate to the Invisible Children organization. If not then maybe I might go to the used book store or the Salvation Army and get well kept books. We as a class for first and second hour can also go around and ask teachers after school if they have any books that they don’t use or just books that they found that people haven’t claimed. We could look in the lost in found if there is any books just laying around that people haven’t claimed and that are lightly used. Last but not least we can ask our parents if they can ask people at work to help for the good cause of getting books for the less fortunate.

I will try and see if I can make shirts for the book drive that will have “Just 7 books” or something the classes can vote on. This will help promote the drive and can remind people to bring in the books that they need. My dad is in the business so I can see what we can do to put this together. The shirts may range from 5-15 dollars depending on the quality and quantity of the shirts and the color of the shirt and prints. We can put whatever the class think will help people bring in books for the cause. I will bring in information about this tomorrow with all or the prices and designs.

I can personally push/promote the book drive by...
1. telling all of my friends about the drive
2. bring in all of the books that I own.
3. convincing my family to donate a lot of books because they read often

I can make these things happen by...
1. spreading the word through email, text or face to face at people's tables during lunch
2. look through all of the books at my house and pick out the ones that my sister and I don't read anymore.
3. consistently remind (annoy) my friends and family to donate books every day

There are many ways we could promote the book drive:

1. mostly everyone has a facebook profile, so anyone who has friends that go to groves, invite them to a group on facebook created by invisible children.

2. Tell your friends- by just talking to your friends at your lunch time or in between classes, this could make a huge difference. All we need to do is bring it up during lunch or passing time and ask them to bring in 7 books.

3. FANN- All of the kids in Mr. Wickersham's 1st and 2nd hour could make a commercial supporting invisible children. Most everyone listens to the announcements and by just making a commercial could really help promote this great cause.

One way that we could promote the invisible children book drive is to put a big white sign (laminated) on the gate between the foot ball fields end zone and thirteen mile road to spell INVISIBLE CHILDRENS BOOK DRIVE, DATE-DATE. Another way to promote the book drives is to announce that book drop offs can be made at sporting events (on groves grounds) or we could have a valentine card system going that costs 50 cents to send a valentine card to someone and that money would go to either the shipping of the books or buying more used books for the kids.

1.Go door to door in your neighborhood and explain the details of the book drive. Example: where they are going, who it’s for, etc.
2.Go meet with the Pastor of your church to see if he would be willing sponsor a book drive for the grade schools and parents to donate.
3.E-mail family/friends if they would be willing to donate books to this cause- they could send them to me.
4.Make a pamphlet explaining the book drive for my parent’s place of work. Include my e-mail so they can contact me with any questions.
5.Talk to my brother’s Marine recruiter- explain the book drive and illicit the Marines assistance.
6.Pass out flyers in the mall describing the details of the book drive. Include the school address/directions for interested parties to drop off their book donations.
7.Go up to my grandparents’ neighborhood in Port Huron to tell them the details of the book drive. I will get the books from my grandparents’ house.

I will promote the book drive by going door to door in my neighborhood and asking them if they would donate books. I will try to help out with anything and ask people at other to try to donate books or money. We should show more people the movie so people can understand how good they got it.

One way I can personally help with the book drive is by going through all of the books in my basement. We have a whole bookshelf that no one has touched in ages and I will go through all of the books over the weekend and bring them in on Monday. I can also bring in a few boxes from my house to store/ship the books. A third idea I have is to pass out fliers at different sports events. There is a usually a table that collects money as you walk into games (at least basketball games) and maybe we could give the people who work there some fliers to pass out as people pay, just to get some the parents involved and aware of the book drive in case their kids don’t tell them.

There are several children in Uganda who I know need my help, so that is why it is necessary for me to strive to collect as many books I can, whether it is from me or someone else. Even though I don’t know an exact amount of how many books I can find within my own household, I know I have several childhood books that I will never read again, I also know that my parents have some books that they never or already read and know that they would be willing to donate. I also know some relatives who live in this area and, who I could call, that would donate to the book drive. Besides making the posters in class I will also promote the book drive by sharing this cause and the reason behind it, with friends and family which I have already began to do. I also would be willing to talk about this book drive with some of my classes and after school activities, so that they would be aware of the cause and try to contribute to the book drive them selves.

There are many ways I could get others involved with the invisible children campaign and promoting the book drive. Of my three ideas my first idea is to talk to the skating team BVS, which I am on, and try to get them involved. I would also bring in students from Seaholm since it is a unified skating team, together we could generate many books. The next thing I would do would be talking to my family about it so they could get involved. The third and final thing I would do is to not only promote the book drive by talking to people but also by raising money by selling the bracelets from the campaign which our school would donate all of the profits. Those are the three ideas I have to promote the book drive and the invisible children campaign.

Three things I'm going to strive toward to help with the invisible children book drive are to contact family/friends that I know would love to donate books for the kids in Uganda or some who just have alot of old books. Another thing would be to make tee shirts to advertise the biggest book drive in history for the kids. Lastly just ask people who might not have books to donate, and might not want a shirt or braclet but might just want to donate for the purpose of the drive. Those are three ways to help with the invisible children book drive, Im sure there will be plently more ideas to come.

One thing I would do to promote the book drive is start a group on a connection site like facebook, and invite al of my friends to it. I would post a video showing what the cause is about, and then urge them to bring books either to me, if they don’t attend Groves, or to bring them to Groves if they do attend. This would be a good way to promote it, because then people could invite their friends to the group, and the fundraiser and awareness would reach outside of our school.

A second way to promote the book drive is to make homemade commercials about our cause and the book drive, post them online, and then show them on the FANN. The commercials would explain what is happening and why we need everyone’s help. We could send our commercials to other high schools and middle schools, so they can play them for their students too.

A third way to promote the book drive is to have a bake sale. Not everyone has books they are willing to bring in, but people may be able to spare a dollar or two, so we can buy books for the cause ourselves. We could have our history classes bake goods, sell them at lunch, and use the money for books.

To help promote and collect books I thought of three great ideas. The first is to talk with all of our other classes and tell them to bring in books. The second is to work with the teachers and staff and try to get them to tell all of their classes about it. And lastly is to pass out flyers to our neighbors and collect their books. So one day during class we could create flyers to pass out to our neighbors. I also think we could go and talk with individual teachers and try to them involved, Especially the other world history teachers. I really like this book drive and think it will really help the children of Uganda but we must do more to promote it. And these ideas I have provided are basic and great ways to get people involved. They are essential to our project.

1. Go to my local library: Baldwin Public Library, and see if they would be willing to donate/promote our school book drive, and let us hang up posters.

2. Put an ad in my Church bulletin, and put a drop-box (any box really) in the vestibule / have a jeans day at my old school, payment being books to donate.

3. Make a facebook group labeled " Groves Invisible Children Book Drive- Just 7 Books" and alert people on the cause that way.

For my local library, I could go in and ask face-to-face with the librarians if they would be willing to help.

For my Church, I could go to the principal/ Priest of my parish and request these things.

For facebook, easy just set up a group and invite everyone I know to join.

1. We could put the info for the book drive on the news to inform EVERYONE about it.
2. We could also place posters in stores to promote the drive.
3. We could put a video on the Groves website.

1. I could get my mom to tell her co-workers at the college, she could tell them on January 9th and tell her students then and at Thursday X-block, I could bring all of them in.
2. We could make a video and put on the fann, some students can make a video to go on the fan starting next week. We can have five movies filmed, I could edit it (they can give me all the music and subtitles they want in it as well before next Friday) then we can have one air every day of the week of the 19th.
3. Get some students to be at school at X-block and after school to take books. It might help if there are times where parents could bring them in instead of the students.

i am going to ask Border's to sponser us and see if they will donate books or money. another thing i will do is see if i can set up a donation box at lunch and x-block. the last idea i have is that i will try to put signs up aroud the school perimeter and have people on the road see them.

1. We should get more people involved with helping us raise books.
2. Try to get a book store/library to help us raise books.
3. We should also find ways to get money so we can buy books.
4. Sell some of those bracelets and shirts.
5. Keep people informed about how the book drive is going.

I will look around my house for books. I will go door-to-door in my neighborhood asking for book donations. I will call my aunts and uncles and ask if they would like to donate anything. I will go to sporting events and hand out flyers asking for donations. A drop-off box could be put in every classroom for a period of time for anyone to add books to.

I think that their is many ways to to get people to give books and such. I think that we sould pester all the teachers until they bring books and make their students bring books. I think that we can tell who ever makes the fann to broadcast a message for us on every broadcast they make until the book drive ends. Selling shirts, rubber bracelets. give kids a fyler telling their parents to take books to parent teacher and put them in the donation box or give them to students.

If that were to happen to me I would feel many ways. I would obviously be scared, being held against my will and told I might not ever see home again on top of being in some very scary surroundings. I would also feel homesick, just being away from home for two days can make me yearn for my own bed easily, especially if I’m not enjoying the place I’m in. in the inside, I would also want to probably go and take action but since they would probably be way stronger than me I would know (in the inside) it wouldn’t be a good idea. But knowing me, I would probably jump at the chance of doing something bad to them. I would also face the fact that I will now have to deal with this stuff; I’m usually quick to dealing with and getting used to things though.

I would really like to help this book drive, and spread the word to others. I think some great ways to “spread the word” could be to make flyers and hand them out to people at school, your church or religious place of worship, and even to family members. Another idea could be to email your friends and ask them to donate books to invisible children. My last idea is to have book drives at your school where all the donated books are sent to the children in Uganda.

Angelinas Ideas!

To help make the book drive bigger i can...

Tell all my friends to bring in books to school and drop them off in drop boxes or in room # B-16.

Get all my friends from groves and tell them to tell all there family and friends to bring books to her and they can bring it to school.

I can tell all my friends from seaholm to try to get books from there friends and try to have them hang up posters.

I can ask my neigbors if they have any books that they can donate.

For the book drive it is great to have it be a school wide effort but that may not be enough. I think that first of all the people in our class and the 2nd hour class must collect books from their family and close relatives. We could also get charities and organizations to donate books because they are able to donate a larger amount of books than just individuals alone. Also to get people in the school involved we should offer some sort of prize or reward for bringing the most books to get the people who would not otherwise get involved.
These are some ideas for the book drive to reach its goal of 10,000 books but I feel that the most important thing for us to do is for the people in our class to promote the book drive by word of mouth to get the entire school involved. Lastly it is important that everyone understands what a great cause it is going to so people feel like they are doing a good thing.

I think good ways to help prmote the book drive we could have people go to stores for the boxes and take them to help with the boxes. Also we could make flyers to put on are own lockers to help promote the book drive. Lastly we could dig in all of our closets to find the books we dont read, and tell family and friends to help give more books.
